Rachel Biggar presents £16,750 to RSABI

25 January 2022

Chair of RSABI David Leggat extended heartfelt thanks to Rachel Biggar during a visit to her family’s farm, near Castle Douglas.

Miss Biggar presented a cheque for the incredible sum of £16750 to Mr Leggat after successfully completing a month-long challenge to run 100km in a month, in memory of her late father Donald Biggar.

As well as being a very well-respected Dumfries & Galloway farmer, Mr Biggar was renowned for his Chapelton Beef Shorthorn and Aberdeen-Angus herds and was a stalwart of native British beef breeds. He was involved in many organisations including Quality Meat Scotland, SRUC and the Royal Smithfield Club and had served as chairman of WCF, which kindly donated £5000 of the total amount raised.

From 7 June to 7 July, Rachel ran a total of 100km in Greece, where she is currently living, challenged by soaring temperatures and humidity.

“Dad was a giver. He was generous with his time, advice, support and kindness and I know he would have loved the challenge I set myself – running is not something in my comfort zone! I am enormously grateful to WCF and all those who donated – sincere thanks to you all for your amazing kindness,” said Rachel.

David Leggat MBE, Chair of RSABI, said the organisation was immensely grateful to Rachel and all those who donated to her fundraiser.

“Donald Biggar was a highly respected member of the farming community and we are very grateful indeed to Rachel for choosing to support RSABI and supporting the work we do to help people in the Scottish agricultural community who need some extra financial, emotional or practical support,” said Mr Leggat.
