RSABI helped over 700 people and their families last year
11 June 2021
At the end of each financial year, Harry Seran our Finance Manager and Company Secretary pulls together some of the key statistics from the previous twelve months.
In 2020/21 we helped over 700 people and their families in Scottish agriculture. We’re seeing more working farmers, crofters and farm workers come to us for support.
Sometimes it only takes a couple of calls to help someone move forward but oftentimes the cases we work on are complex – and it’s not unusual for one of our Case Officers to work with someone for over a year.
This is reflected in the number of interactions we have with, and on behalf of, clients. This was 10,000 in the last financial year and includes things like helpline calls, working with third parties such as consultants and subject experts to help resolve issues and research on possible solutions.
As reported in a previous blog, we saw a significant increase in demand for our helpline services last year, with our call out service being particularly busy.
We gave £300,000 in direct payments to people in need last year – to cover essential items such as heating and food.
RSABI provides practical, emotional and financial support to people in Scottish agriculture – and often people will need all three types of support to help them move forward from a difficult time in their lives. We are seeing an increase in demand for emotional support – with 67% of people we helped last year receiving this kind of help. This ranges from a regular call to check in with someone who is struggling to help to access counselling.
RSABI helps put people in touch with third party counsellors, many of whom have knowledge of agriculture, and lots of people find this very helpful. If someone is unable to afford counselling RSABI can look at providing a one-off grant to cover the cost of 10-12 sessions.
We couldn’t do this work without our Supporters, Members, donors and fundraisers. Your contribution helps us to provide vital services to people in Scottish agriculture.
