RSABI appoints Norette Ferns to communications role
24 April 2020
RSABI has appointed Norette Ferns (39) as its new Communications and Marketing Officer.
Norette’s main focus will be raising awareness of the services offered by the charity, which provides emotional, practical and financial support to people involved in Scottish agriculture, and its Supporters’ Schemes.
Norette has worked in rural development communications for over 15 years, including five years in the Rural Communities and Economy Division of the Scottish Government and ten years in the Rural Team at the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations.
Norette, who has a farming background, did a degree in English Literature at Glasgow University, followed by an MSc in Publishing at Napier University. Her career included working on the Scottish Rural Network initiative during two Scottish Rural Development Programmes, promoting and supporting rural development and encouraging the sharing of ideas and good practice.
Nina Clancy, Chief Executive of RSABI, said Norette had joined the RSABI team at a crucial time for the charity and for Scottish agriculture.
“We are delighted to welcome Norette on board. Farmers, crofters and others involved in Scottish agriculture are clearly under immense pressure with concerns about COVID-19 coming on top of concerns about the impact of Brexit and other challenges,” said Ms Clancy.
“It has never been more vital that people in agriculture are aware the RSABI is here to help in terms of offering practical, financial and emotional support and Norette will help us increase awareness at this vital time.”
In the coming weeks RSABI will be launching an impactful new campaign aimed at supporting the mental health of farmers and others in Scottish agriculture, supported by key organisations from throughout the Scottish farming industry.

RSABI is currently helping 25 – 30 new clients every month and increasing the number of supporters is vital to ensure we can meet demand going forward.
We're aiming to double the memberships of its individual, business and corporate membership schemes by autumn 2020. Membership of RSABI’s Individual Supporters’ Scheme costs just £25 a year – great value at just £2 a month.
